Welcome to the West - Penn Air training department. This is where you put your skills to the test. There are different phases of training that a pilot must go through in order to 1. gain competency on a certain aircraft, 2. gain rank, 3. maintain aircraft currency. On your initial training you will be required to pass a short written test, and pass a short check ride in the Piper Archer. Once this is complete you will be given the rank of trainee. Every 6 months you will be required to submit another check ride. Your progress and improvement will be followed. You cannot be "fired" from WPA. These short tests and check rides, are for your benefit. They not only help us to know if we can help you in any certain area to make you a better pilot, but also to add value to your rank. Anyone can plummet through the sky with a GPS, however as you advance in rank, you are expected to be a little more experienced. It is also not in any way used to discourage a pilot, or make him look bad, instead to help a less experienced pilot become more proficient. We are working on getting enrolled with Steve's Flight School, which will give you a virtual license. To reward those who go the extra mile and earn their written ratings at Steve's Flight School, WPA will give you an early advancement in rank. Guidelines are being worked out and will be entered into the operations handbook. Along with Steve's written tests, the check rides that come stock in FS will also be used. Again, these are optional, but will be rewarded, and hours flying check rides to count. Below is a link that you can follow to go to Steve's Flight School.
